Program Description

Event Details

In The Cold Millions, Jess Walter looks back at a wild, and wildly overlooked, period of history— the Western labor wars of the early 1900s. He discovered a time that felt deeply relevant to the 2020s, a time of political and cultural division, chasms between the wealthy and the poor, and workers trying to organize in the face of corporate pressure. Join us to hear Jess Walter speak about his research, how simple things like walking tours can reveal the past, and how readers and writers alike should seek out “the most interesting and telling moments in your own city’s history.”

This event is part of the NEA BIG READ-Waukesha Reads program. NEA BIG READ is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
